Ocean City, Maryland, which is also known as OC, is a very popular town located along the Atlantic Ocean in Worcester County. This town offers plenty of things to do for kids and adults alike. History of Ocean CityOcean City has been popular for visitors since 1869 when the very first beach-front cottage was built. They came here to enjoy fishing, the clean sand and generally enjoying ocean life. It wasn’t long before the word got out about this wonderful seaside town and guests began pouring in. The first major hotel was built in 1875 and the popular Ocean City Inlet was formed by a 1933 hurricane. Today, the town has experienced rapid growth where multi-million dollar resorts are built and restored. What Does Ocean City Have to Offer Families?Ocean City is a relatively small town. It is just over nine miles long and the regular population is just over 7,000 residents. It is full of lodging for families and vacationers, shopping, and restaurants. While Ocean City is not a secret getaway, it is the place to go when you are looking for a bit of fun and sun with your family. The Boardwalk is a Popular AttractionOne of the most popular attractions in Ocean City is the Ocean City Boardwalk. This is the largest shopping area in town and offers plenty in the way of entertainment. Make sure you take your kids to get some of the very popular Dollies Salt Water Taffy, Thrashers French Fries, and Fisher’s Caramel Popcorn. You will also find specialty shops along the boardwalk, along with places to get old time photos and get a quick Hanna tattoo. If you don't want to walk the entire boardwalk, you can always catch a ride on the trains that run up and down throughout the day. Amusements Parks for the KidsYou can also spend your time (and money) and one of the two very popular amusement parks. The Jolly Roger and Trimper’s Rides are full of fun for the whole family. Trimper's features an indoor and outdoor area, a roller coaster, and the Tobaggan coaster. Rides, arcades, and live entertainment are just the beginning when you come here with your family. The Jolly Roger has two locations in OC. It features rides, mini golf, a go-kart park, a water park, and much more. You can purchase all-day passes, get group rates, and find special deals online. Fishing Galore Abounds in OCFishing is another popular attraction in Ocean City. If your family loves ocean fishing, then there is plenty to do while you are here. You can take part in the popular recreational fishing and try to catch a prize White Marlin. Rent a charter or a private boat and set out to sea and fish for billfish, wahoo and tuna. If you visit in the summer during August, then think about entering the White Marlin Open where prize money can be over one million dollars. In addition, if you love outdoor sports, Ocean City offers a wide variety. Check out water sports such as hang gliding over the water, skiing, swimming and surfing. Golf is also popular here. Summer and late spring are the times to visit Ocean City. Many attractions are closed during the winter months.
